Using an FIA or Work First voucher for car repair: how it works at Redford Auto

A plain-English walkthrough of bringing a state car repair voucher to any of our 8 shops, what to bring, and how long it takes.

If a caseworker has approved you for car repair assistance, we can do the work. We've accepted these vouchers for years at every shop, and we handle the paperwork with the agency so you don't have to.

What to bring

  • The voucher or authorization letter
  • Your ID
  • The car, or call us about free towing if it won't start

What happens next

We inspect the car and write up an estimate in the format the agency needs. Once it's approved, we do the work and bill the agency directly. If the approved amount doesn't cover everything, we'll tell you exactly what's covered and what isn't before we start.

How long it takes

The inspection and estimate usually happen the same day. Approval time depends on the agency, typically a few business days. The repair itself is scheduled as soon as approval comes through.
